Meet The Airedale Terrier
The Airedale Terrier has been created in the middle of the 19th century by the working class in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The breed was created by crossing the old English rough-coated black and Tan Terrier with the Otterhound. It was formally recognized by the KCE, Kennel Club of England, in the year 1886. Because of its size, the airedale terrier is often called "King of Terriers", it averages between 50 and pounds. Because the breed was originally used to hunt otters it is also called the waterside terrier. The Airedale Terrier is a protective, brave and affectionate breed and a very pleasant dog to own. However, you should keep in mind that the airedale terrier is a rowdy breed and in order to avoid dominance issues you should start the obedience training at a young age, this way you will ensure a well mannered
dog. As stated above, obedience problems may arise if training is not started at a young age. And, the airedale terrier is a stubborn breed requiring firm handling. All these make the airedale terrier a dog that would not be recommended as a family dog for the average family. However, even if the breed can be difficult at times, its loyalty make owning one a joy. This breed is hard to groom than other breeds because the airedale terrier hair is hard and crisp. Depending on the cut of the coat, the airedale terrier can shed heavily or the breed might not shed at all. You should pluck the dead hair twice a year, at least. If you choose to have an airedale terrier, you should keep in mind that it is a very active breed that loves to swim, jog, run and play. An average size yard is the least you can provide.
